Hi everyone! I’m back with another blog post about my adventures in Europe. This time, I want to talk about something that might seem trivial but is actually very important: internet connectivity.
Yes, you heard me right. Having a reliable and fast internet connection while traveling around Europe can make a huge difference in your experience and enjoyment. Let me show you some of the reasons why this is so:
You can stay in touch with your friends and family back home
Whether it’s through social media, video calls, or messaging apps, having internet access allows you to share your stories and photos with your loved ones, and also get their support and advice when you need it. You don’t have to worry about missing out on important events or news from home, or feeling lonely or homesick.
Traveling is awesome, but it can also be lonely sometimes. You might miss your loved ones, or just need someone to talk to. That’s why I always make sure to call or message my friends and family regularly when I’m on the road. It helps me feel connected, supported, and happy. Plus, it’s fun to share my experiences and hear what they’re up to.
Staying in touch with friends and family while traveling is not only good for your mental health but also for your relationships. It shows that you care about them and that they’re important to you. It also makes you appreciate them more when you see them again.
You can plan your itinerary better
With internet access, you can research the best places to visit, the cheapest flights and accommodation, the most convenient transportation options, and the most interesting activities and events. While this planning can be done before you leave home, sometimes there will be unforeseen changes, and you will have to change your plan. This happened to us once when a transport strike occurred and we could not have continued with our original plan.
Aside from having a flexible itinerary, you can also check the weather forecast, the opening hours of attractions, the reviews of restaurants and hotels, and local tips and recommendations. You can save time and money by booking everything online, and avoid unpleasant surprises or scams.
You can enjoy more entertainment and education
Traveling is fun, but sometimes you might need a break from sightseeing or socializing. With internet access, you can stream your favorite shows and movies, listen to music and podcasts, play games and quizzes, read books and articles, and learn new skills and languages.
You can learn about the culture and language of your destination with apps like Duolingo, Memrise, and Babbel. You can practice some basic phrases, learn some fun facts, and impress the locals with your skills. Other apps like currency converters, navigation apps, and travel guides also help you become more effective and efficient.
You can stay safe and secure
Having internet access can help you deal with emergencies or problems that might arise during your trip. You can contact the local authorities, your embassy, your insurance company, or your bank if you need help. You can also use online security features such as VPNs, password managers, and encryption services to protect your personal data and online accounts from hackers and cybercriminals.
As you can see, internet connectivity is not a luxury, but a necessity when traveling around Europe. That’s why I always make sure to have a good internet plan before I leave home. I use a mobile hotspot device that allows me to connect up to 10 devices at once, with unlimited data and high-speed 4G LTE coverage in over 130 countries. It’s super easy to use: I just turn it on and connect my phone, laptop, tablet, or any other device I need.

A few reminders…
It’s also very affordable. You can choose the plan that is just right for you. Just don’t forget to check things like roaming charges. Some countries in the European Union have abolished roaming fees, which means you can use your phone as if you were at home. However, some countries still charge extra fees for using your phone abroad, so make sure you check the rates before you go.
You must also compare different providers. There are many mobile network operators in Europe, and they offer different plans and prices. You can use comparison websites or apps to find the best deal for your destination and usage. Some providers also offer special deals for tourists or travelers, such as prepaid SIM cards or bundles.
Another thing you need to look into is your data needs. How much data do you actually need during your trip? Do you need to stream videos or music, or do you just need to check your emails and social media? Depending on your usage, you can choose a plan that gives you enough data without breaking the bank. You can also use free Wi-Fi hotspots or offline apps to save data.
Sometimes, though, things don’t go as planned, and you might need more or less data than you expected. That’s why it’s good to have a flexible and adaptable data plan that allows you to change or cancel it anytime. You can also use local SIM cards or eSIMs if you want to switch providers easily.

I traveled a lot before and after smartphones and having a smart phone and the connectivity when traveling is so helpful. I’m not a planner and tend to do things in the moment so having access to the internet enables going on the fly.

We aren’t traveling to Europe but we are going to the U.S and we now have our internet connection in place. It is so important to be able to have that connection nowadays.
